Vacqueras Les Christins Rouge 2017
Variety:
Red
|
Grenache / Garnacha Tinta, Syrah
Winery: Perrin / Château de Beaucastel
Region:
Rhône Valley,
France
Vinous 92 - Limpid magenta. Ripe, spice-tinged raspberry, boysenberry and pungent flowers on the highly fragrant nose. In a supple, fleshy style, offering juicy, well-concentrated red and blue fruit and spicecake flavors that turn livelier on the back half. Smooth and seamless on the impressively long and gently tannic finish, which leaves behind a sweet berry note.
Wine Spectator 89 - Fresh and open-knit, with a wave of raspberry and cherry puree flavors, laced with subtle chalky minerality and floral notes on the finish.
Wine Advocate 88 - The 2017 Vacqueyras les Christins is a 75-25 blend of Grenache and Syrah, matured in foudres and tanks. Scents of baked cherries are underscored by hints of darker fruit and licorice on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is supple and easygoing, then ends with softly dusty tannins.
Maker's Notes - Beautiful dark ruby color. The nose is intense and tasty with aromas of black fruit and spices and mineral notes. Balanced and complex on the palate, the tannins are dense and silky, with notes of blackberry, cassis and liquorice. Long and mineral on the finish, this wine is full of finesse and elegance and reveals the harmony and wisdom of old Grenache, in a traditional and pure register.

Perrin / Château de Beaucastel
Château de Beaucastel is a magical place, surrounded by hills planted with vines, hundred-year-old olive trees and truffle oaks. Here nature is blooming, liberated and at ease. Ancient vines with knotted roots are nurtured in the traditional ‘gobelet’ style in the soil typical of the region, laden with large round pebbles. When the Mistral blows—the legendary wind from the Alps—it whistles down the Rhône Valley cooling the vines and revealing aromas of Garrigue. It has the Southern accent of those who live here at one with the Mediterranean climate. It’s on these ancestral soils, supporting the 13 grape varieties of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, that each new vintage of Beaucastel is born.

Rhône Valley, France
Located in southern France, The Rhône wine region (situated in The Rhône Valley) produces numerous wines adhering to various Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) designations. The Rhône is divided into two main sub-regions with distinct vinicultural traditions: Northern Rhône and Southern Rhône.
As with many other French wines, wines from The Rhône feature subtle, balanced, and complex flavours teased from the careful blending of the many grape varieties grown in the region. Noteworthy exceptions however include wines which adhere to the Côte-Rôtie and Cornas appellations, both which must consist almost exclusively of Syrah (the only red grape grown in Northern Rhône). Côte-Rôtie can be blended only with white grapes, so to maintain the already full-bodied tones of Syrah. Cornas must be 100% Syrah.
The Southern Rhône sub-region has a more Mediterranean climate, with milder winters and hotter summers as compared with the North. This alternating weather pattern, along with the geological conditions of Southern Rhône, results in a range of ‘microclimates’, giving rise to a wide diversity of grapes. The Southern Rhône’s most famous red wine is Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a blend of up to thirteen varieties of grape (as permitted by the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC).
For the lover of deep, compound, mosiacs of flavour The Rhône offers much to experience, learn from, and to enjoy.
